Attorneys & Judges Assistance Program

AAP

The Attorneys & Judges Assistance Program was established more than twenty years ago by the Hawaii Supreme Court "to provide immediate and continuing assistance to any attorney or judge who has a problem or is impaired for any reason."

The AAP has trained lawyers and counselors who have learned from experience better ways to deal with these issues.  A call to the AAP office will put you in touch with someone who can show you an easier way to cope with life's problems.  The services are free and strictly confidential, and communications are privileged.

Steven B. Dixon, JD

AAP Director

Forty years ago Steve Dixon came to Hawaii from Southern California to surf the North Shore.  A graduate and former Student Body President of the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and a graduate of California Western School of Law, Steve raised his family of two children and practiced law in small to medium sized law firms on the Big Island from 1978 - 2004.  He also served as a Military Intelligence Officer in Viet Nam, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Steve's area of practice included real estate, business, tax and estate planning.  He has also served as principal Broker for Kohala Ranch and as Principal Broker for the oldest and largest vacation ownership developer in the world, Fairfield Resorts, Inc.  Steve has been a volunteer counselor for over 20 years and has served three terms as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Supreme Court Attorneys and Judges Assistance Program.

In December 2005, Steve succeeded retiring Director Peter Donahoe as Executive Director of the AAP.  He has also served as a volunteer on the Hawaii Medical Association Physician's Health Committee, the AAP's counter-part organization for Physicians.

An avid sailor and author of "The Hawaiian Voyages of the Ono Jimmy" a published book of Hawaii sailing adventure stories, Steve is also a member of the Hawaii Yacht Club and served as Commodore of the Kona Sailing Club.  He and his wife along with their two dogs sailed on their CSY '44 cutter-rigged sailing vessel, the Lanakila, from the Big Island to O'ahu where they now reside.
